Last year the EVX Team spent three days at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, DC. It was just us, the GT, and a couple hundd thousand science geeks. That’s where the IEEE interviewed Simon Hauger. Read the interview and watch the video here.
The EVX Team had an incredibly busy spring. In April we returned to Watkins Glen to compete in the Green Grand Prix, another great competition for the Team.
Philadelphia filmmaker Debbie Morton followed the EVX Team for two years as we competed in the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE. Her documentary, Fast Times at West Philly High, premiered on Frontline this week and can now be seen on-line.
The EVX Team is back to work after a rather too-long hiatus. We have a lot palnned and we need your help. Our annual fundraiser is in March. We hope to see you there. The attachment at the end of the article gives you all the details.
I read it in Popular Mechanics. It is official; the members of the EVX Team will receive Popular Mechanics Next Generation Award on Monday, October 11, 2011. All of this is part of Popular Mechanics 7th Annual Breakthrough Awards event.
After 13 years of building cars in an after-school program at West Philadelphia High’s Auto Academy, the EVX Team is moving its base of operation. On September 6, 2011, The Sustainability Workshop (Workshop) opens at The Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. The Workshop has enrolled 30 Philadelphia public high school seniors for a year-long program that will operate in partnership with Drexel University, the School District of Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia Innovation Cluster (GPIC). Simon Hauger, the EVX Team Director, will head-up this innovative pilot program.
West Philly High beat another Ivy League University today. Cornell University was among 43 other cars that didn’t make it to the Winner’s Circle at Watkins Glen for the Green Grand Prix. However, EVX GT was there and it looked marvelous. The EVX GT won the 100 mile fuel economy Road Rally, while the Chevy Volt won the 50 mile fuel economy Road Rally. The GT had the best fuel economy of any car in the competition.
